Linda Lavin Theatre Research Award

The first presentation of the Linda Lavin Theatre Research Award was made on April 27, 2013 to rising senior, Anne Kehrli.

Established in 2011 by renowned actress and Theatre alumna, Linda Lavin, this award will be given annually to assist students and their faculty mentors to cover costs associated with pursuing a research project focusing on scholarly and/or creative activity in theatre or dance.

During the summer of 2013, Anne Kehrli will use this award to pursue archival research in Italy. This project will prepare her for work on her Honors thesis the following year.  She will be examining Shakespeare's presence in Italian culture and how his writings have been manipulated to promote various social and political agendas over the course of the 19th and 20th centuries.

In addition to supporting our students' research aspirations, Ms. Lavin returned to campus as a Class of '39 Artist-in-Residence to offer master classes in the department. Her financial generosity toward our students is well-matched by the sensitivity and warmth of her teaching.
